Fernando Alonso has said he will “likely” return to the Dakar Rally in the future, in the hope of adding another victory to his motorsport career.
Alonso made his Dakar debut in Saudi Arabia this month with Toyota Gazoo Racing, whilst it wasn’t a smooth ride for the two-time Formula 1 world champion, he managed a 13th place finish just under five hours adrift of winner Carlos Sainz.
Speaking at the end of the final stage, Alonso thanked his team: “This is the toughest rally in the world, and to be here after 12 stages was not easy. Sometimes we had to deal with some difficulties, but we have an amazing team,” he said.
“These guys were amazing. Not only here, the last seven months, so thanks Glynn [Hall, team principal], thanks Toyota.”
